My Christmas Menu (2018): A Festive Twist on Traditional Nigerian Dishes 🎄

This year, my Christmas menu took on a delicious twist as I broke away from the usual Nigerian holiday rice dishes. Growing up, Christmas was synonymous with jollof and fried rice, but this year, I felt inspired to try something different. Although I knew rice would still make its appearance (after all, who can resist?). I still wanted to be creative with my recipes, flavours, and the menu as a whole, and *voila* this is what I came up with.

The Menu
  • Main Course: Coconut Rice with Chicken Curry Sauce and Stewed Beef
  • Snacks: Banana Puff-Puff (a sweet twist on a classic Nigerian snack)
  • Extras: Stick Meat, Juice, Soy Milk, and Coke

The standout dish for me? Definitely the stick meat! Perfectly seasoned and tender, it was the hit of the day. Having my sister and her family join us made our Christmas even more special—they loved everything on the table and rated the menu 100%! We all agreed that the banana puff-puff was a winner; its sweet, fluffy texture was impossible to resist. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture the picture of the chicken curry sauce because I actually prepared it late compared to the others, and by the time I was done with it, I just set the table and we all ate. I also made peppered stew sauce just to have varieties on the table in case people didn't want/like the chicken curry sauce. Thankfully everybody loved it, ate well and I won the award of #OlowoSibi😝 (someone who handles cooking well)

My Cooking Adventures and Trying New Recipes
For someone who once wasn’t big on cooking, trying out different recipes and seeing how well they turn out has been a #ProudMamaBearMoment for me. Over the past year, I've achieved a solid success rate with my dishes (we’ll ignore the 20% that didn’t make the cut! 🏃‍♀️). Quick and simple recipes are my go-to, and I’m excited to try even more new ones in 2019. I’ll be sharing more of these recipes here, especially the ones that surprise me and get the “wow” factor.
