Calgary Tower is one of the top tourist attractions in Calgary & definitely a top recommendation from me if you are visiting or just passing by Calgary. This tower stands tall as an iconic symbol of Calgary's modern skyline, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Calgary and the Rocky Mountains.
We spent our 8th wedding Anniversary day-date here and I enjoyed exploring, visiting, and soaking up all the beauty that comes with the city.
That being said, today on my blog, I'll be sharing the top 5 things to do to have a memorable experience when visiting this iconic structure downtown. With no further ado, let's dive right into it but first, let me share some quick facts & things to know before your visit.
- The Calgary Tower is 626 feet (191 meters) high and there are 802 steps in the stairwell up the tower.
- The construction of the tower began in February 1967 and was completed in June 1968 to celebrate Canada's centennial.
- The tower was once the tallest structure in Calgary but while it no longer holds this title, it’s still a fantastic way to look out over the bustling city. Today, the tower acts as the city's centerpiece, offering tourists spectacular views of Calgary and the Rocky Mountains.
- There are 132 LED lights on the exterior of the tower.
- It was originally called the Husky Tower, it was renamed in November 1971 to honour Calgarians.
Curious about the cost of visiting the tower? Well, the admission rate ranges for different age groups as seen on their website here (February 2024).
The tower is located in the heart of downtown Calgary & is open to visitors every day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. from June to August and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from September to May. The closest CTrain stations are 1st Street SW or Centre Street.
5 Ways to Have a Memorable Experience
- Once you get to the observation deck, head to the Theatre Room. In the Theatre Room, check out the short film, "Calgary Tower – Building and Icon," and Travel Alberta's most recent fly-through video, which shows footage of Alberta from the sky. The films run every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Enjoy the view from the Observation deck: There are so many amazing views that you will get to see and fall in love with such as Brookfield Place, Bankers Hall, and much more, including the Rocky Mountains in the distance. They also provide a multimedia tour that is accessible and available for free on your mobile device. This basically gives you an interactive guide to the skyline around you.
Me enjoying the view from the observation deck😍 |
- Walk on the glass floor: for an elevated experience of the city below, try walking on the glass floor. This view allows you to enjoy a bird’s eye view of 9th Avenue SW and Centre Street. It's also a good way to conquer your fear of heights. The glass floor is 36 feet long and more than four feet wide, the glass panes that make up the floor can each hold the weight of a couple of hippos!

Of course, we also had to create this cute boomerang |
- Enjoy a meal at Sky 360: Once you are done exploring and taking in all the stunning views at the tower, you can head up and dine at sky 360 restaurant for a one-of-a-kind dining experience
This is a revolving restaurant that rotates high around the city in a 45-minute spin at lunch and every 60 minutes during dinner. You get to enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the surrounding landscapes, while you enjoy a meal.
What better way to celebrate 8 years of marriage & end a day-date |
- The last thing you want to do before heading out is browsing through the souvenir shop: If you are visiting for the first time or just passing by, you might be interested in picking some nice souvenirs to keep. This shop is the perfect spot to pick up a souvenir of your time in the city for yourself and your friends even if you’re a local!
Overall our experience was awe-inspiring. It was also a special day for us so I totally had a perfect day if I do say so myself. I would definitely love to do this again with my kids probably during another season and a different time of the year.
That will be all from me today, I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I loved writing it & I also hope this little guide helps you to have an amazing experience if you decide to visit the Calgary Tower
Thank you for stopping by in my little corner & I will see you again at the next one..💋
