If there’s one thing you wouldn’t expect on a day trip from Calgary, it’s a museum dedicated to gophers! The Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington is a quirky gem that defies all expectations—you’ve got to see it to believe it! Picture this: tiny taxidermy gophers dressed as if they’re the stars of their own soap opera, from gophers in wedding gowns to gophers decked out as firefighters. It’s pure, laugh-out-loud entertainment, and honestly, we were giggling from the moment we stepped in.
When I was planning our day trip from Calgary, I had planned only this Kirk’s Alberta Farm visit with the hope that if we had more time, we could drive by the Museum. So glad we were able to squeeze in time on our way out of Torrington. It was totally worth it. This little museum is packed with personality, featuring gophers in themed costumes posed in detailed dioramas—exactly the quirky adventure we didn’t know we needed!
As soon as we walked in, we were surrounded by comical scenes of gophers doing everything from getting married to a beauty salon, and even firefighting! Each display is packed with charm and so much detail that we couldn’t stop laughing. Teni & Tade were totally captivated, pointing out their favorite gophers.
Beyond the laughs, you can feel the heart and small-town pride in every display. This is the kind of experience that leaves a unique, lasting impression
- Plan around 30 Minutes or less to explore: The museum is small but packed with charm. You’ll definitely want your camera ready!
- Perfect for Kids: Kids will love the whimsical scenes—from gophers in wedding dresses to rodeo stars.
- Embrace the Unexpected: This is a place to enjoy with a sense of humor—get ready to laugh!
