If there’s one thing you wouldn’t expect on a day trip from Calgary, it’s a museum dedicated to gophers! The Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington is a quirky gem that defies all expectations, you’ve got to see it to believe it!
Picture this: tiny taxidermy gophers dressed as if they’re the stars of their own soap opera, from gophers in wedding gowns to gophers decked out as firefighters. It’s pure, laugh-out-loud entertainment, and honestly, we were giggling from the moment we stepped in.
Planning Our Visit
When I was planning our day trip from Calgary, I had initially only planned a visit to Kirk’s Alberta Farm. The Gopher Hole Museum was more of a “let’s see if we have time” kind of idea. Luckily, we managed to squeeze it in on our way out of Torrington, and let me tell you, it was totally worth it!
As soon as we walked in, we were surrounded by comical scenes of gophers doing everything from getting married to running a beauty salon, and even firefighting! 😂
My kids were totally captivated, pointing out their favourite gophers and giggling non-stop. It’s amazing how much charm and personality each display has. It felt like we’d walked into a tiny world where gophers rule the day, doing regular jobs, attending school, and even performing on stage.
Why It Stands Out
Beyond the laughs, you can feel the heart and small-town pride in every display. This museum was such a refreshing and unexpected stop, proving that sometimes the best experiences are the ones you never planned for.
