When it comes to quick and easy day trips from Calgary, Canmore always delivers! It’s a charming little mountain town that offers stunning scenery, family-friendly activities, and the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. On our last visit, we set out for Grassi Lakes, planning to do the full hike—but as things turned out, we ended up with a mix of light hiking, scenic driving, and a relaxed stroll through town.
Our day started with Grassi Lakes, which was the main reason for our trip. While we didn’t complete the full hike, we explored part of the trail and still got to enjoy the stunning turquoise water and breathtaking views. Even a little hiking was enough to appreciate how beautiful this place is!
After our mini hike, we decided to drive around the area to take in more of the scenery—and that’s when we got a surprise…goats🐐(Not mountain goats, but hey, since they were on a mountain, that counts, right?😂?) A whole group was hanging out by the roadside, unbothered by the passing cars. My kids didn't expect to see them, making it one of the highlights of our trip. Sometimes, the best moments on trips are the unexpected ones.
📍 Tip: If you plan to visit Grassi Lakes, go early! The parking lot fills up quickly. Even if you don’t do the full hike, just stopping by for a short walk and a scenic drive is worth it.
After our time at Grassi Lakes, we made our way to Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk. This spot is perfect for families—no steep climbs, no complicated trails, just a peaceful walk with mountain views and the sound of the creek flowing beside us. The kids loved spotting ducks and just running ahead while we enjoyed the crisp mountain air. It was the kind of quiet, scenic stop that made you appreciate the beauty of Canmore without breaking a sweat!
No trip to Canmore is complete without wandering through Downtown Canmore. The cute little streets, local shops, and cozy mountain-town vibe make it such a fun place to explore. We browsed through some of the shops, enjoyed the fresh air, and took our time just soaking it all in.
Of course, we had to stop at The Big Head—Canmore’s famous giant stone head sculpture. It’s one of those quirky landmarks that you can’t help but take pictures of and it was a nice, lighthearted way to wrap up our day.
Before heading home, we enjoyed a good lunch downtown, taking in the relaxed mountain-town atmosphere one last time. Sitting back after a day of exploring made for the perfect ending.
The drive back to Calgary was just as enjoyable—the scenic mountain views made for a peaceful ride, and the kids dozed off in the backseat, tired from all the fun. It’s always nice when the journey home feels just as calming as the adventure itself.
This trip was all about keeping things simple—no rushing, no long hikes, just enjoying the beauty of Canmore at our own pace. Whether you’re looking for an easy family getaway or just want a change of scenery, Canmore is a perfect choice. From scenic mountain views at Grassi Lakes to peaceful boardwalks and the charming downtown streets. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and just take it all in.
That will be all from me today. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the internet today. Until next time… Xoxo 💋
