Calgary Stampede with Kids: What’s Fun, What’s Overrated, and What I’d Skip!

Taking kids to the Calgary Stampede is a whole different experience! From the excitement of the kids to navigating the crowds, it’s a mix of fun and chaos. If you're planning to take your little ones, here’s a quick guide based on my experience—what’s worth it, overrated, and how to make the most of it as a parent.

🎡 Best Stampede Attractions for Kids

Midway Kids' Rides – A hit with kids, but expect long lines. If your child loves rides, consider getting an Unlimited Ride Pass to make the most of it.

BMO Kids' Zone – One of the best spots for younger kids! Stage shows, interactive games, and shade (which is a lifesaver on hot days).

Petting Zoo & Agricultural Exhibits – If your child loves animals, this is a must-visit. From baby goats to horse haven, miniature donkey showcase, and other varieties of farm animals. You will have the opportunity to learn about their care, and gain insights into agriculture. It’s a great hands-on experience for the whole family.

Parade Watching – Fun and exciting, but get there early to claim a good spot! It’s a great way to kick off Stampede with kids.

🤷🏽‍♀️ What’s Overrated or Challenging for Kids?

Crowded Food Areas – Finding food can be chaotic, especially during peak hours. If you’re with young kids, it’s best to pack snacks to avoid long waits.

Some Rides Are Pricey – While the Midway is fun, some rides aren’t really kid-friendly and can be expensive. Check height restrictions before lining up!

Late-Night Events – Fireworks and evening concerts are great, but probably too late for little ones. If you’re going with kids, consider a daytime visit instead.

🏆 Tips for Parents to Survive Stampede with Kids

Go Early → The earlier, the better! Fewer crowds and cooler temperatures.
Take Advantage of Free Kids' Admission Day or Family Day → If you don’t mind the crowds, it’s a great way to save money on entry.
Bring Snacks & Water → Food lines can be long, and hydration is key!
Use a Stroller or CarrierLots of walking, and little legs get tired quickly.
Find Shaded Rest Spots → Calgary’s July heat can be intense—plan for breaks!

Final Thoughts – Would I Do It Again?

Would I take my kids to the Stampede again? Yes! but I’d always make sure to plan ahead with the crowds in mind. If you’re considering going with your little ones, it’s definitely worth it—just come prepared, pace yourself, and embrace the chaos! 😆
